First College Graduate

Our first college graduate on April 22, 2011!  What a day!  We had such a wonderful time cheering for Jon.  Dave and I were so proud of him.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  Jon and Sarah have worked hard to achieve this milestone in their lives.  Sarah said, "I didn't do much."  I responded, "You went to work when you didn't want to."  She agreed.  He couldn't have done it without her love and support.

Baylor University called him a few days earlier and told him they were offering him a spot in their Bio-Medical Engineering program.  We were all surprised because we thought Iowa State was a done deal.  So now they have options which is a wonderful place to be.
This says it all!

Proud and happy parents!

Jon:  How many more pictures?  I'm hungry.

Dave and I are so blessed to have such a wonderful family.

Another adventure is about to begin--Iowa or Baylor?

Barefooting Conquered

This week is our spring break.  We had time but nowhere to go.  So at the last minute we decided to go to Lake Mead.  We left Monday morning and arrived in time for a evening ski.  The next morning we got up--late for our time and found the most beautiful water.  The water was a chilly 62 degrees but it was flat and open.  We all skied until we were tired.

Steven then asked if he could learn to barefoot.  I personally thought he was crazy because the water was so cold and he would spend a lot of time in it.  His first try, he sprayed the boat with water because his legs were so straight.  On the second try, he followed Dave's instructions and he did it!  We could hardly believe it.  Steven was pumped.

We Sold Our House

The Lord is truly in the details of our lives!  Last Tuesday we got an unsigned acceptance of our counter offer for our house.  All the details were signed yesterday Saturday, April 2, 2011.   The family that is buying our house came down with their children between conference sessions.  The kids just wanted to see it one more time.

We left the house, did some errands and then went to Yogurtland to await the call from our realtor that they were finished.  When she called she said the kids were ecstatic over the pool, diving board, and slide.   Dave could hear them laughing in the background.

The mother of the family wanted to buy our dining-room set but we do not think that she is willing to pay the price that it would take to replace it.  The father loved the backyard niceties (the gas hook up in the BBQ, the fountain, the shelves in the garage etc).  We are so glad that this family will love the house and neighborhood.  As Anne said, "I am glad that they are happy about the house."

The plan is we will close on the house Monday, April 26 right after we get back from Jon's graduation.  We will then rent back the house until the kids finish school.  This is a huge blessing!  Not only does it save us money because we do not have to move twice but it prevents a huge disruption of our family life.  Dave had the impression that one of the reasons our house sold for such a good price and so quickly was that we had not participated in showings on Sunday.  We explained to the realtor our feelings and she was completely understanding without any shadow of criticism.

At this time, we are not completely sure where we are moving but we have a few options and ideas.  We have begun the initial process of looking at homes.
